The Peale family was one of the most famous families of artists in early America. Mary Gamble had her portrait painted by James Peale, younger brother of Charles Willson Peale. Three of James’s children became prolific artists. Charles also trained his children to be artists, including Rembrandt, the youngest Peale to paint George Washington from life.
