Hannah Ash
Jacob Eichholtz Pennsylvania 1801 Oil on panel 95.34 Friends of the Museum Purchase
Jacob Eichholtz first trained as a coppersmith before switching to painting. Once his tin shop became successful, Eichholtz hired enough smiths to focus on painting. This circa 1801 miniature portrait of Hannah Ash shows the natural talent his family saw in him in his early years. Eichholtz was later influenced by James Peale and Thomas Sully.
